Introduduction

Endurancelife was founded in 2003 by some friends with a passion for challenge, adventure and the natural world.  The aim then, as it continues to be today, was to to build a community of active and adventurous members who are up for anything, love a challenge, and care deeply about safeguarding the natural world for future generations to enjoy.

The company has since flourished and we are proud to host a variety of exciting endurance orientated events, in inspiring natural locations, with an emphasis on; accessibility, quality and progression. Since 2003 we have introduced thousands of people to endurance sport whilst simultaneously opening their eyes to some of the most special parts of the UK.

We believe that nothing is more motivating and rewarding than committing to a challenge, preparing for it and ultimately succeeding.

Endurancelife now offers a wide range of quality events and services to people of all levels of fitness and experience, from accessible 10k trail runs, to notoriously difficult coastal marathons, ultra marathons and Coast 2 Coast adventure races.  Whatever your standard, we believe that taking on a challenge should be exciting, enjoyable and ultimately rewarding, our events reflect this, and whether you are making your first tentative forays into trail running, or travelling to Norway with us to take on the worlds toughest Iron man, you can be assured of a friendly welcome, lots of enthusiasm and an excellent experience.

Gary Jolliffe

Gary set up Endurancelife with a friend 6 years ago and is enormously proud to be part of an organisation that is making a difference by inspiring people to challenge themselves in the great outdoors.

After graduating with a BSc in sport science, Gary took off on a road trip that lasted 7 years and included working in Africa, New Zealand and South America in a wide variety of capacities. Gary has been lucky enough to sea kayak, scuba dive, paraglide, ski, run, ride and mountaineer in some of the most beautiful places in the world and this has provided the inspiration behind Endurancelife.

Over the years Gary has competed in a variety of Endurance challenges, favourites being; The Devises to Westminster Canoe Race, Norseman Xtreme Triathlon, The 7x7x7 (7 marathons, 7 days, 7 ways) and a John O’ Groats to Lands End bike ride that included the 3 peaks and kayaking the 3 biggest lakes on the way.

Now happily settled in South Devon, Gary is married to Leigh and is a doting dad with a baby daughter and a Jack Russell called Pickle. The next mission is to sea kayak around the SW Peninsular.

MSc(Eng) Product Design Management

After a successful career in design consultancy in which he claims to have helped many organisations exploit his ideas Andrew felt the need to break away and realize a few for himself.

Andrew’s creative vision, marketing knowledge and entrepreneurial ambitions marry perfectly with the skills of the other two Endurancelife Directors to form one side of a strong triangle, whose base broadens as the team grows.

Andrew is a committed father of two, qualified kite surfing and climbing instructor, and recently completed the Norseman Xtreme Triathlon - The world's hardest Ironman event.

Will Turner

Will is responsible for the course planning and design of Endurancelife’s highly reputed events.  In 2008 alone, he planned 20 successful events.

He has an extensive background in outdoor activity (both on land and in the water), and has over 10 years experience in event participation.

He has completed the Bob Graham Round (long distance Lakeland fell running challenge) in 21 hours, completed the Three Peaks Yacht Race 2008 (4th place) and has enjoyed competing in numerous events: Polaris Challenges, mountain marathons and other adventure races.

A Modern Languages degree (French, Spanish & Portuguese) allowed him opportunity to travel extensively and reside abroad; enhancing his love for the outdoors and diverse landscapes, whilst also developing his linguistic skills.  This experience provides Endurancelife with great potential for future ventures overseas.

James Barker

James has a degree in Business and Information Technology from Manchester University. In addition to this he has many years experience working for the IT Services giant EDS (coincidentally, this was at the same time as the tax credit debacle – but he assures us both are not related!)

James now concentrates on the financial side of Endurancelife, as well as undertaking project management and timing during events.

The Environment

Our business is totally reliant on the natural environment.  It provides the basis for everything we do, without the inspiring and beautiful natural landscapes that exist around us, we would have no where to base our events and activities, we would have no business.

With this in mind we are acutely aware that we are responsible for ensuring that our events are sustainable and carefully managed so that that they have a close to zero, or where possible, a positive environmental impact on the landscapes we encounter.

We strongly believe that by providing people of all levels of fitness and experience the opportunity to challenge themselves in the great outdoors, we are positively contributing to society and the preservation of our natural heritage. Only by going out and getting active in the outdoors out do we learn to appreciate what an essential resource our open spaces are, and what an increasingly important role they have to play in our physical and spiritual wellbeing.

By encouraging more people to be active in the outdoors we are helping to reinforce the essential educational message that fresh air and exercise are good for you. There is irrefutable evidence that rigorous exercise in the outdoors produces happier, healthier, less materialistic and better balanced people. This can only be good for society and the planet.

Foot & Mouth Disease & TB Update

With the unfortunate periodic reoccurrences of Foot and Mouth and TB in the British countryside we ask all our participants to do their bit before coming to our events.

As a precautionary measure, we would appreciate it if all participants clean and preferably disinfect their footwear prior to arrival at the event location. This is of particular significance to those travelling from recently affected areas or counties. Although these measures are not presently requirements of DEFRA (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs), we see it as a sensible preventative measure and at the very least, an act of courtesy to the local farmers and land owners. For more information on the current situation please visit; http://www.defra.gov.uk/footandmouth/.

Thanks for your cooperation. Let's hope Foot and Mouth Disease and TB are one day finally put to rest.

Very much enjoyed the coastal half on Saturday, great run, challenging and well organised. Many thanks to all your marshals and volunteers. I would definitely recommend the race.
